To develop an economical solar-optical-based lighting system with higher illumination efficiency for threshold zone of short tunnels, this paper introduced a solar optical reflection (SOR) lighting system.
Learn more. Highway tunnel lighting working 24 h a day, 365 days a year largely enables traffic safety but consumes a large amount of electric energy.
When supplementing lighting system in the threshold zone of short tunnels, there are two mainstream methods with the consideration of energy-saving. The first is a vehicle-following photoelectric lighting system, i.e. “vehicle in, light brightens; vehicle out, light darkens” (Qin et al., 2017, Wang et al., 2020).
Along with the increase of freeway tunnels, the energy consumption of tunnel lighting rises considerably as well. Hence, to achieve energy-saving, most tunnel lighting systems are designed with low requirement in the mountain regions of China where freeways have low traffic flows.
Public facilities or large-scale infrastructures, especially for highway tunnel lighting working 24 h a day, 365 days a year consume a large amount of electricity. The cement-based Ni-Zn
