With the large-scale integration of renewable energy and changes in load characteristics, the power system is facing challenges of volatility and instability.
Mobile energy storage can improve system flexibility, stability, and regional connectivity, and has the potential to serve as a supplement or even substitute for fixed energy storage in the future. However, there are few studies that comprehensively evaluate the operational performance and economy of fixed and mobile energy storage systems.
This paper evaluates the feasibility and profitability of investing in energy storage systems through a comprehensive techno-economic analysis. Net Present Value (NPV) quantifies the economic benefits of a project by measuring the difference between the present value of future cash flows and the investment cost.
In terms of mobile energy storage, Northeast China has a unit capacity absorption ranging from 30 kWh to 90 kWh, compared to 15 kWh to 56 kWh in North China. (2) As the share of renewable energy in the system increases, the absorption capacity of fixed energy storage initially rises and then declines, with 50% and 55% as the inflection points.
